The City of New Franklin, Ohio, nestled in between the cities of Barberton, Norton, Clinton, Green, and the nearby Portage Lakes, was officially established in March of 2006, when Franklin Township and New Franklin Village merged to form its new community. This city is rich in American history: it was settled in the 1800s by the Pennsylvania Dutch, and was known to be a regular stop in the Underground Railroad. Further, it is also known as the home of baseball legend, George H. Sisler.
New Franklin has a diverse blend of citizens, who live in various districts within the City. Residents have postal codes which include Akron 44319, Barberton 44203, Clinton 44216, Canal Fulton 44614 and Norton 44203; the four local school districts responsible for educating the City's children are Manchester, Norton, Northwest and Coventry; and, some residents choose to identify their hometown as either Manchester or Portage Lakes. As a result, New Franklin has developed into "A Community of Neighborhoods," each with its own unique features.
New Franklin is just 20 minutes from Akron and Canton, 40 minutes from Cleveland, and just miles from the Akron Canton Airport, giving this city a great central location close to shopping, great restaurants, excellent-rated hospitals, and easy travel. In addition, New Franklin is just a stone's throw to the historical and well-known Portage Lakes, a lake-side retreat offering fun summer and winter water activities and endless entertainment.
